Basketball Backboard Systems for Home

A good basketball backboard gives you a rebound you can trust, shot after shot. Our freestanding systems adjust and roll into place on the driveway, while wall-mounted boards from our marketplace sellers fix straight to the wall. Choose the setup that fits your space.

What to look for in a basketball backboard

Board material

Polycarbonate gives a responsive, reliable rebound that feels closer to a real court. Some wall boards use PE instead, so check the material and thickness when you compare.

Height range

The official rim height is 3.05m. A freestanding system that adjusts down to 2.40m lets younger players join in, while a wall-mounted board stays at whatever height you fix it.

Base or wall

Freestanding systems are weighted with water or sand, and sand gives more stability. A wall-mounted board skips the base entirely but needs a solid wall and the right fixings.

Storage and footprint

If the hoop shares space with the car, a folding design matters. Our B500 Box folds down and rolls away in minutes, and a wall board leaves the ground clear.

Who it suits

Driveway regulars

A sturdy frame and true bounce suit players who shoot most days.

Shared spaces

A folding system gives you a full court feel without a permanent fixture.

Garage and wall setups

A wall-mounted board keeps the ground clear and has no base to fill.

Setup and care tips

  • Weigh a freestanding base down with sand for the steadiest setup.
  • Lie a freestanding hoop down when not in use in strong winds, as bigger boards catch more wind.
  • Clean the board with a damp sponge and mild soap, then rinse with fresh water.
  • Check the fixings on a wall-mounted board regularly, and never swing on the rim.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best material for a basketball backboard?

For home play, polycarbonate is a great choice because it gives a responsive, reliable rebound. Our B700 uses a polycarbonate board, as does the 110 x 75 cm wall-mounted board from our marketplace. The 91 x 61 cm wall board uses shatter-resistant PE at 3 cm thick, so compare the specs on each product.

What height should my backboard be?

The official rim height is 3.05m, used from age 10 upwards. Up to age 10, club hoops are set at 2.60m. An adjustable system lets you change it as players grow or as different family members take a turn.

How do I stop a freestanding hoop tipping over?

Fill the base fully, ideally with sand, which is heavier than the same volume of water. In strong winds, lie the hoop down when nobody is playing, because the board catches the wind, especially at higher settings. In very windy spots, you can add extra ballast to the base.

Should I choose a wall-mounted or freestanding backboard?

A freestanding system can be adjusted, moved and laid down in strong wind, which suits a shared driveway. A wall-mounted board needs a solid wall and proper fixings, but it keeps the ground clear and has no base to fill. The wall-mounted boards on this page are sold by marketplace sellers, so follow their installation instructions closely.

When should I replace the net?

Nets wear with sun, weather and plenty of swishes, so swap one in once it frays or sags. Our 6mm net is resistant to bad weather and fits all hoops in the Tarmak range, so swapping one in keeps the rim looking sharp.
